The Complex Relationship Between Americans and AI: A Growing Dependency Amidst Rising Concerns

Swept up in the AI Revolution

According to the latest Pew Research poll, the AI world is becoming more intertwined with our daily interactions. Nearly half, about 49 percent of Americans, say they use chatbots at least on an occasional basis. But for some, it seems to be a case of too much, too fast. A sizeable 63 percent of Americans believe that the speed of technology advancement, particularly when it comes to AI, is a bit too rapid. That’s a stark contrast to the trend back in 2024 when only 33 percent had dipped their toes into the AI chatbot waters.

An Era of Tech-Savvy Skepticism

One chatbot that’s caught on particularly, is ChatGPT. This bot has seen its usage double since way back in 2023 and now 44 percent of Americans say they have interacted with it. But as the popularity of AI grows, it’s not necessarily equating to an optimistic view of this advanced tech. A mere 16 percent of respondents believe that AI will truly have a positive impact on society.

The relationship with AI tech among young generations is somewhat of a paradox. This demographic is more inclined to use AI, yet, they also express a higher level of skepticism. A clear example of this can be seen with a significant 66 percent of Americans of certain young age brackets expressing concerns over the rapid advancements in AI technology.
